Apparently Jimmy Kimmel just started to notice that players in the NBA had tattoos. So who better to judge the artwork than the always entertaining Mike Tyson. Watch as Iron Mike dishes on the ink of Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, DeShawn Stevenson, Kenyon Martin, Chris “Birdman” Andersen and Marquis Daniels – where they actually use photos that originally ran in Dime.
Boxing or MMA?
My favorite fighter of all-time is Mike Tyson. Second place? Bruce Lee. Those who only remember the ear-biting, post-prison, forgotten-fundamentals version of Tyson may not believe it, but once upon a time Mike 100% earned the title “Baddest Man on the Planet.” Young, focused Tyson won fights with his power, speed and technique as much as he did with menacing intimidation. But even while that Tyson seemed unbeatable to me as a kid, I used to wonder how he would have fared with a fast pair of feet coming at him as well as fists. Read More »

When a young phenom stumbles, or goes all the way and completely falls from grace, the race is on amongst guys like us (media) to say “I saw it coming.” Whether it’s a young Mike Tyson‘s behavior around women or Todd Marinovich‘s father creating a recipe for his son’s rebellion, pundits like to say they saw the signs before anyone else. In the case of Michael Beasley, playing the “We saw it coming” card initially seemed like opportunistic hindsight, and yet, thinking back to our time spent with Beasley, everything that’s come to light this week makes sense. Somewhere in the unwritten manual of home training, I’m sure there’s something about not criticizing a man’s funeral. But Michael Jackson‘s internationally-televised memorial service was not the standard funeral. And not because of some erroneous notion that Mike is more important than anyone else, but because his funeral was — albeit inevitably, given his celebrity — executed more like an awards show. (You think the Mr. Blackwells of the world weren’t debating whether or not to run a “Best and Worst Dressed” list?)
So I know I’m not the only person who wondered aloud why — for an event where the list of speakers was obviously carefully selected from a large pool of candidates — Kobe Bryant was on stage alongside Magic Johnson. Read More »

I watch a lot of TV. No need to bother counting the hours; just know that when I’m working from home the TV is on pretty much all day, I usually watch basketball games at night, and I usually need the soft light of a nearly-mute TV to go to sleep. And that’s not to mention the “couples” shows I watch with my fiancee, who can be a TV beast in her own right.
That said, at any time of the year, there are a good 4-5 shows that I’d call “my favorite show.” And after this weekend, I’m moving “Deadliest Warrior” to the top of the list. Read More »

I’m not gonna say it’s impossible. Once upon a time, I watched Buster Douglas knock out Mike Tyson in his prime. I saw the ’95 Mariners damn near make it to the World Series. I remember Mankind surviving the Corporate Ministry and beating The Rock for the WWF belt. You all heard KG: Anything is possibuuuuullll.
That said, it’s looking grim for the Cavs trying to make it out of this 3-1 series hole to the Magic. And if/when Cleveland does take that fourth L, there’s one thing that I know will definitely happen in some circles that really needs to NOT happen: Read More »

Over the weekend, ESPN asked LeBron to list his five favorite athletes growing up. LBJ’s answers: Michael Jordan, Deion Sanders, Penny Hardaway, Emmitt Smith and … LeBron (he was joking; we think). Read More »
