Jason Kidd Challenges Nets Owner To Game Of 1-On-1

Jason Kidd, Giannis Antetokounmpo

Earlier this week Brooklyn Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov sounded off on his former coach Jason Kidd in a highly entertaining chat with reporters. The Russian tycoon relayed the proverb, “Don’t let the door hit you where the good Lord split you,” and said, “I think we should get even,” after Kidd left Brooklyn in the lurch to sign a three-year, $15 million contract to coach the Bucks this summer. When Kidd was told about the comments, he had a pretty funny rebuttal: a one-on-one showdown between the two. Read More »

Prokhorov Isn’t Selling Team, Or Getting Married But Will Get Even With Kidd

Mikhail Prokhorov

Mercurial Nets owner and Russian oligarch Mikhail Prohorov made a rare media appearance at Brooklyn’s 116-85 smackdown of an injury-riddled Thunder team last night. He was in fine form, and spoke about his former coach, Jason Kidd, leaving for Milwaukee after a failed coup d’état of GM Billy King, his single lifestyle, and the ho-hum $144 million he lost on the team last year. Kidd Wants Dual Front Office/Coaching Role; Likely Out In Brookyln

Jason Kidd

It wasn’t long ago that Jason Kidd the head coach intentionally spilled a drink on the court to try and steal the league’s most expensive team in history its fifth win through the first 15 games of last season. It speaks volumes of the Brooklyn Nets’ turnaround and Kidd’s improvement on the sideline that such an embarrassing moment has mostly been forgotten. The future Hall-Of-Famer could be considered one of basketball’s brightest young coaches after leading the Nets to a 34-17 record once the calendar flipped to 2014, and he’s begun wielding the clout that comes with such a distinction by reportedly requesting front office and decision-making power from Brooklyn ownership. The problem for Kidd? Mikhail Prokhorov and company are refusing to give it to him and will likely sever ties with Kidd as a result. Read More »

Parity Forever? How The NBA’s New CBA Changed The Game

Dwight Howard, James Harden

We’re early in the season, when every team, except the Knicks, seems chipper and optimistic. Thus far, it seems that this optimism is well placed. For the first time since the 1999 lockout, multiple teams from both the East and West think that they have a solid shot at winning an NBA Championship and, perhaps most importantly, they’re correct. NBA Clears Nets In Probe After Andrei Kirilenko Signing

Andrei Kirilenko

The Brooklyn Nets were investigated by the NBA after surreptitiously agreeing on a deal with Russian free agent Andrei Kirilenko in July. They have now been cleared of any wrongdoing, according to Fred Kerber of the New York Post. Kirilenko inked a deal for substantially less than he would have made if he’d opted-in on the final year of his deal with the Timberwolves, and his surface connection with Brooklyn’s Russian owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, had many league executives whispering about underhanded dealings. Jay-Z Sells Nets Share To Coach Jason Kidd

Jason Kidd

The Nets ownership stake Jay-Z bought in for was largely ceremonial. It’s not that .067 percent of the new Brooklyn Nets wasn’t expensive, it cost 500K, it’s that it was dwarfed by the Russian tycoon, Mikhail Prokhorov and the 80 percent majority share he bought in 2008. Now Jay’s fractional ownership stake has passed on to the coach of the team, Jason Kidd. The New York Post reports that HOVA sold his stake to Kidd, conflict of interest be damned. Read More »
