While Minnesota has been haunted since Kevin Garnett left for Boston, Michael Beasley has long been knocked as a shoot-first, look-for-teammates-later kind of player. This season, signs are showing that the T-Wolves’ rebirth is changing the way we think of Beasley, too.
The following interview can be seen in its entirety in the current issue, Dime #68. Read More »

Could this be the week that Kevin Durant passes LeBron James? It’s been the topic of discussion for the majority of the week, leading up to their Sunday night faceoff (in which Durant came out on top). Many have come to the conclusion that Durant has finally edged LeBron for first place in the race to the MVP. LeBron has been having one of the most impressive seasons by an individual since Michael Jordan was playing. The month of March hasn’t been his best, but there’s a lot of basketball left to be played. Read More »

It doesn’t matter if it took two extra overtimes, seeing a game end up with 289 points is crazy. Kevin Love channeled his recent anger to go berserk for a career-high 51 points, and yet the Thunder dominated the final overtime. Russell Westbrook scored the first points there and ultimately led OKC to a nine-point win with 45 points. Kevin Durant chipped in with 40 points and 17 rebounds, but as well as the Thunder’s big-name players balled, the rest of the team was non-existant. James Harden did his thing as well, but where was everybody else? They were busy making J.J. Barea (25 points, 14 assists) look like something other than a pretty good backup … Read More »

Even though this clip is a video of a bunch of grown, or nearly grown men singing Britney Spears‘ original hit that came out when the chick was like 17, I won’t hate. Besides this being a promotional thing for Minnesota, that song was a hit no matter who it was designed for. To get real for a second, uppity attitudes and musical backpackers can be really annoying. So for this, the ‘Wolves get some extra credit in my book. Read More »

Last week was an interesting seven days for our MVP race. Derrick Rose has been out with an injury, which left room for others to move up in the ranks. D-Wade is back to playing MVP-worthy basketball, which makes things a bit tougher for LeBron individually. Kevin Durant’s level of play is ridiculously consistent, despite Russell Westbrook taking basically the same number of shots as him. Read More »

The NBA’s best freshmen no longer need to study for midterms. Their quizzes come every day, in practices or in games with this year’s go-go-go schedule.
Their salaries are better than their scholarships, sure, but as rookies the learning curve is mastered slower than going from Math 100 into Advanced Statistics.
That’s why this time of year is one of the most interesting of any to watch the rookies play. In college life, as many of these guys were in last year, this is the peak of the year. Well, welcome to the league, where you’ve still got a month after the NCAA championships — and that’s if you’re watching the playoffs on the couch. Read More »

The 3 p.m., March 15 trade deadline has come and gone as fast as your brackets will be busted by this weekend’s end. Most cats around the league can now breathe easy, knowing they haven’t been dealt and can focus on the remaining part of the schedule. Others, however, must deal with the reality they were shipped out like yesterday’s garbage. Either way, this a time for them to regroup and stop commenting on every rumor that appears on blogs and Twitter. Read More »

Brandon Jennings was content to wait. While the Nets came out hot Monday in New Jersey, Milwaukee’s oft off-target star found his stroke wherever he wanted as the game went on. Jennings stepped back for six threes on 11 attempts and had a game-high 34 in the Bucks’ win. He’s in the best shooting season of his career at 40 percent from the field (Progress, people. Progress.). While it’s progress that he’s better year-over-year, it’s still not good. It was nice though, to see his third night of 50 percent shooting or better this month, after not hitting that mark once in February … Read More »

So you want Dwyane Wade taking the last shot huh? He finally did in Miami’s two-point overtime win against the Pacers last night, and made a game-winner. But even after that, Erik Spoelstra was asked who he had planned to take the final shot. His answer: “Whoever’s open.” That’s because LeBron scored the team’s final eight points, including a crazy three, to actually send it into overtime where Wade and Chris Bosh dominated. James and Wade combined for 55 points, and you have to feel bad for the Pacers, who led for all but 12 seconds out of the game’s last 18 minutes … Read More »

This sucks. At the end of last night’s T-Wolves/Lakers game, Ricky Rubio ran over to trap Kobe Bryant – when he got there, his knee buckled and Ricky went down in a heap [Watch the video after the jump]. [Watch Rubio's best passing highlights here]
