Muggsy Bogues has a beef to pick with the folks at 2K Sports. He wants them to get his photo right for the NBA 2K15 edition, because they certainly didn’t do so last year. Read More »

Dime Q&A: Florida State Senior Ian Miller On Overcoming Adversity & Learning From Muggsy Bogues

Ian Miller

Florida State senior guard Ian Miller is no stranger to adversity. Throughout his first three seasons at FSU, Miller has battled injuries and academic eligibility issues. Like any college student thrust into the rigors of a top-tier Division 1 men’s basketball program, Miller had to adjust.

Miller was a standout star at United Faith Christian Academy High School, where he led his team to two N.C. 1A basketball championships and was named The Charlotte Observer Player of the Year twice. Read More »

Dime Q&A: NBA Legend Muggsy Bogues On His Haters, The ’90s & Playing With Larry Johnson & Vince Carter

Muggsy Bogues

This interview was originally published in Dime 73. Check newsstands nationwide to see the feature printed in its entirety.

Sure, Tyrone “Muggsy” Bogues gained fame and popularity because at 5-3, he was the smallest player to ever suit up in the NBA. But even today, he casts a large shadow as one of the most memorable players of the 1990s because he played a frenetic style that became a trademark of one of the most underrated teams of that era. In The Place To Be: Live From NBA All-Star Saturday Night

James White

How long have you been waiting for tonight? A couple of weeks? Maybe a month? Well, if you’re James White, you’ve been waiting a decade. Flight White was put on this planet to do one thing. He was born to dunk, and yeah, he’s won some dunk contests over the years (and, somehow, lost a few too). But this will be his biggest stage yet. Read More »

Shaq Could Return To Basketball; Knicks New Jerseys Are Revealed

Shaquille O'Neal

Just a day after we heard Allen Iverson say he was willing to take the Starbury detour and head to China to play ball, we’re hearing another former star could be coming back to basketball: Shaquille O’Neal. That sound you hear is TNT fans everywhere screaming in delight. No one is talking about anything permanent, however. Sorry to kill the excitement. Yes, O’Neal should be back to possibly submarine “Inside The NBA” again, but there are also some plans in the works for the Big Fella to restart his pro career on the court. Read More »

Ben Wallace’s New Offense; Kobe Bryant Closes in on Europe

Ben Wallace had a greater offense this weekend than Tom Brady. On Saturday night, he was reportedly booked on drunken driving charges as well as for the unlawful carrying of a concealed weapon. The police didn’t release his blood alcohol level and Big Ben will be back in court on Oct. 3. The pistol is something we can’t defend, and neither is the driving. But drinking (Wallace says he had four beers) is what happens when you’re part of an organization that seems intent on making itself the most dysfunctional group in all of sports. All of those players seemed like they were wound-up soldiers ready to pop at any second because of the frustration. We can only imagine the amount of stress they were under this year. For his part, Wallace says he was driving from Virginia to Michigan and just forgot that the gun – registered to his wife – was in a backpack in his backseat … Read More »

Kobe Bryant Runs The Drew League & Perry Jones Doesn’t Want To Be A Raptor

Perry Jones

If ever there was a story that was very Kobe-like, then the tale of how his game at the Drew League came to be is definitely it. If you aren’t up on your summer league scheduling, the Drew League finished recently with a championship. Kobe’s people called just before the title game was about to be played, saying he wanted in, or wanted the chance to play. Of course, no league is going to throw him in for the championship. That’s just wrong. So instead, they adopted the idea of a celebrity/All-Star/random game for Kobe. Read More »

The All-Time NBA All-Small Team

J.J. Barea

Why do we like the little guy in basketball? Because it reminds us of ourselves, the ones who missed out on the two-foot growth spurt that we swear could make us into NBA players? Because it gives us a glance at someone doing something they aren’t exactly supposed to do? Maybe. We like underdogs.

Dallas’ J.J. Barea fits that mold. The whirling dervish dropped 17 points and five assists on the Miami Heat in Game 5 of the NBA Finals. How can a guy who’s not even 6-feet tall – teammate Brian Cardinal said he might be 6-feet in stilettos – do this over giants? And how did he score Miss Universe 2006 being so short? And is she taller than him when she’s wearing stilettos? Read More »
