Monday Madness: Michigan State still looking for its defining win

Five NCAA teams that got my attention this past weekend for various reasons:

1. Michigan State (7-3) Considering the Detroit Pistons’ fall from NBA grace and Michigan State’s rise to NCAA elite, I’m not sure if Saturday’s doubleheader at The Palace of Auburn Hills was meant to showcase Pistons/Raptors as the main event or the undercard. Before the Pistons blew a 25-point lead and lost their game, the Spartans barely hung on to beat unranked Oakland. Read More »

C.J. Leslie High School Hoop Diary: Interview with a Point Guard

C.J. Leslie

Word of God Academy (Raleigh, N.C.) forward C.J. Leslie is a Top-10 prospect nationally. Previously committed to N.C. State, Leslie re-opened his recruiting and has opted to wait until the spring to decide on a college. That alone makes his one of the most intriguing stories in the 2010 class, and Leslie also happens to be one of its most exciting players. C.J. has agreed to give Dime and High School Hoop exclusive access in a regular diary about his season and the recruiting process as he inches closer to a decision. For his latest entry, C.J. has brought in fellow Class of 2010 star Ryan Harrow to help him out. Here’s an excerpt: Read More »

The nation’s biggest McDonald’s H.S. All-American snub

Ryan Harrow (photo. Aurelien Meunier)

Ryan Harrow is beginning to sense a pattern.

When the selections for the 2010 McDonald’s All-American Game were announced live on ESPNU on Feb. 11, Harrow — a senior point guard at Walton High School in Marietta, Ga. — once again found himself on the outside looking in as he was denied a career-defining opportunity. General consensus among several media and fans was that Harrow was the biggest McD’s snub out of anybody. Read More »

Florida’s Chandler Parsons Hits 75-Footer For The OT Win

We mentioned it in Smack this morning, but Chandler Parsons‘ 75-foot bomb will be tough to beat for the best finish of the year. Two seconds left in overtime, Wolfpack up two, Farnold Degand missed a free throw that would’ve put them up three. Parsons grabs the rebound, takes a few steps and launches a dagger that drops at the buzzer. Swish. The amazing thing was that the Gators were a dreadful 2-for-23 from three-point range before that shot.
