First of all, the Houston Rockets are getting their asses kicked in NBA Free Agency 2011. With the news that Nene has reached an agreement to re-up with the Denver Nuggets, Houston has officially had Pau Gasol, Marc Gasol and now Nene snaked from them in various ways. And now they’re screwed.
Nene has been one of the hottest commodities on the free agent market since the the NBA Lockout was lifted, and now he’s going to be paid like one. Read More »

When it came down to it, the Memphis Grizzlies refused to lose Marc Gasol. All along, team owner Michael Heisley said that he was going to do whatever it took to keep Gasol in Memphis, but when word came out that the Houston Rockets were planning to give the restricted free agent every dollar they could, I had serious doubts that the the Grizzlies would match their $55 million offer sheet.
Tonight, Heisley dug deep. Read More »

After letting major pieces of his championship squad go, Mark Cuban is re-stocking. Quickly.
First, he landed a disgruntled Lamar Odom for basically nothing, and tonight comes word that the Mavs have signed not one, but two more backcourt weapons. Read More »

The Houston Rockets are apparently dying to have a Gasol on their roster. After officially losing out on Pau late last night, they have reportedly swiftly moved their sights to younger brother Marc (one of my Top 10 Centers in the NBA Today). And they are more than willing to break the bank to make it happen. Read More »

Now this is kind of funny. As last as this morning, we all thought that David West was signed, sealed and delivered for Boston. But now it appears that Larry Bird has stolen West from their clutches at the last second.
The Legend took care of business by hanging back and waiting for his time to strike. Read More »

Last night’s unraveling of the Three-Team Chris Paul-to-the-Lakers trade will have far-reaching consequences both immediately and down the road. From the ire and potential training camp no-shows of some of the players involved, to the further setback of the Hornets franchise (Outside of a Rajon Rondo deal, that haul of players was probably the best deal they were going to get for Chris Paul), the effects will be felt for a long time.
It’s particularly crushing for the Los Angeles Lakers, who for now are out on CP3 AND Dwight Howard, their masterplan coming apart right before their eyes. Late last night reports surfaced that once the CP trade dissolved, Dwight immediately focused his sights on the Nets. Read More »

NBA GMs are on a roll today. It looks like we’re about to be 2-for-2 with smart, veteran free agent signings (as opposed to MLB GMs giving the world’s oldest-looking 31-year-old a 10-year, $250-million deal).
Today’s New York Post is reporting that a Knicks free agent deal with Grant Hill is on the verge of becoming a reality. Read More »

There was a time not too long ago when Tracy McGrady signing a free agent deal would have been major, major basketball news. We are very far from those times. Today, word of T-Mac’s signing with the Atlanta Hawks is ranked below drunk-dialing CEOs and Rick Adelman‘s choices for assistant coaches on ESPN.com’s NBA page. (see below) Read More »

You may have seen this on Twitter last night after it broke, but it appears as if the Portland Trail Blazers will not be using their Amnesty Clause out on Brandon Roy. This can be seen as somewhat of a surprise move, considering that as last as last week, all signs pointed to Roy’s days in a Blazers uni being a wrap. [We even had him near the top of this list.]
Waiving Roy would have reportedly saved the Blazers about $15 million in salary this year alone. So what changed? Read More »
