Someone has to pay for Tyson Chandler, right? It looks like that someone in New York will be Chauncey Billups. With the Knicks apparently very close to signing Chandler, they need money for the deal with the Tyson, while still setting themselves up for a Chris Paul move [click here for what that might look like].
That leaves Mr. Billups to be either traded or waived as a victim of the Knicks’ Amnesty Clause. While Chauncey is reportedly not the least bit happy about today’s developments, it might end up working out for him in Miami. Read More »

NBA GMs are on a roll today. It looks like we’re about to be 2-for-2 with smart, veteran free agent signings (as opposed to MLB GMs giving the world’s oldest-looking 31-year-old a 10-year, $250-million deal).
Today’s New York Post is reporting that a Knicks free agent deal with Grant Hill is on the verge of becoming a reality. Read More »

You may have seen this on Twitter last night after it broke, but it appears as if the Portland Trail Blazers will not be using their Amnesty Clause out on Brandon Roy. This can be seen as somewhat of a surprise move, considering that as last as last week, all signs pointed to Roy’s days in a Blazers uni being a wrap. [We even had him near the top of this list.]
Waiving Roy would have reportedly saved the Blazers about $15 million in salary this year alone. So what changed? Read More »

So who wants more buckets in their lineup? Potentially 20 points per night? Free agent swingman Jason Richardson seems like a pretty good get for a lot of different teams, especially for a franchise like the Chicago Bulls, who are probably just a player or two away from making a real run at a title.
It’s a fact not lost on the Bulls or a bunch of other teams as they’re officially allowed to talk directly to free agents today. I wouldn’t be surprised to see J-Rich get a lot of attention from teams, he makes a lot of sense for a lot of clubs. Read More »

Yahoo! Sports’ NBA-news-and-rumors beast Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that the New Jersey Nets are “working feverishly” to complete a deal for Carmelo Anthony and are “in the construction stage of a complicated, multi-team trade.”
How complicated? The deal would apparently involve multiple players, draft picks and as many as four teams. Read More »

From of the multi-team NBA trade rumor mill that has been churning out Carmelo Anthony scenarios, a new one surfaced this morning via the New York Times that would lead to a ‘Melo/Yao Ming duo in Houston. The deal is an interesting one – specificallt for the Rockets – but I’m not sure it makes a ton of sense for Denver, especially compared to what else is reportedly out there for the taking.
The deal allegedly looks like this: Read More »

This morning ESPN’s Chris Broussard is reporting that Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will team up in Miami, with their official announcement coming sometime today. The Bosh-to-Miami or Bosh-to-Chicago with Wade scenario seemed to become more and more likely as yesterday wore on due to Bosh’s apparent extreme resistance to playing in Cleveland.
We will have much more analysis on this new later on today, but the major question remains: Read More »

Baldwin. Spike. The Donald. Chris Rock. Boomer. These are just some of the names that are part of the Knicks’ recruiting efforts to bring LeBron to New York. Really, all they need is Baldwin to deliver a Glengarry Glenn Ross-esque speech and LeBron would be hard-pressed to say no.
Based on more recent reports, the Bulls are the clear-cut favorites to land LeBron, and even if it’s not the Bulls, the Knicks’ chances are getting slimmer by the day. But the Knicks have not completely lost all hope Read More »

LeBron James will be a New Jersey Net next season. No source has told me that and I don’t have any secret information – it just makes way too much sense for that move to not happen. The situation for LeBron and the Nets is a great fit as is; one or two things falling into place would make it an absolute homerun for everyone involved (James, the Nets, the NBA).
Here’s how the (very plausible) scenario breaks down, without mentioning a Jay-Z friendship one time: Read More »

In today’s New York Times, William C. Rhoden makes a case as to why the best offseason free agent move for LeBron James would be for him to join forces with Michael Jordan and sign with the Charlotte Bobcats. Rhoden makes a compelling argument – there does seem to be many, many reasons why, on paper at least, James and Jordan would be a serious force in the NBA both on and off the court. Ultimately though, there’s almost zero chance of this ever happening and there are more than a few reasons why. Read More »
