The Celtics Rise And Cavs Drop In Latest NBA Title Odds, But No One Touches Warriors

The Kyrie Irving trade drama continues, as the Cavs and Celtics will reportedly discuss potential changes to the trade package going Cleveland’s way over the coming days. While those two sides hash out a final deal, Vegas has already updated the NBA championship odds.

Over at Westgate, the latest title odds show the Celtics having closed the gap some on the Cavaliers, while the Cavs drop slightly. Meanwhile, the Warriors are in absurd position as the heavy favorites to win the title — significantly larger favorites than they were to start last season.

You can see the effect of this summer’s transactions on the odds sheet, and how it’s changed dramatically over the last three months. Golden State at 5/11 is just ridiculous for a championship future. At the start of October a year ago, after landing Kevin Durant, the Warriors were 2/1 favorites, for comparisons sake.

As for the Cavs and Celtics, the way in which Cleveland lost to Golden State, the Kyrie Irving trade, and their lack of major additions this summer has seen them drop from 5/2 odds to 4/1 odds to win the title. Behind them, the Spurs crept up to 8/1, while the Celtics, having added Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving, jump from 15/1 odds to 10/1 currently.

Elsewhere on the odds sheet there are some other interesting movements. Adding Paul George has rocketed the Thunder up to 25/1, which is equal to the Rockets after adding Chris Paul — Houston at 25/1 would be what I’d consider to be the best value on the board. Paul’s former team, the Clippers, has plummeted to 100/1, equal to the Pelicans, Trail Blazers, and Nuggets out West, while Minnesota has climbed from 100/1 to 40/1.
