Eric Bledsoe Says He Was Tipped Before Game About Nerlens Noel’s Hard Foul

Eric Bledsoe, Nerlens Noel

Last night Nerlens Noel dropped Eric Bledsoe to the hardwood not more than 30 seconds into the Suns-76ers game in Philadelphia. This came after Bledsoe had said his alum, Kentucky, could beat the 0-12 Sixers in a seven-game series. It was an embarrassing proclamation, even if some believe there’s some truth to his belief. Well, it seems Bledsoe knew the hard foul was coming since a 76ers player tipped him off about it before the game began. Read More »

Apparently Nerlens Noel didn’t take kindly to Eric Bledsoe insisting that the Kentucky Wildcats could beat the winless Philadelphia 76ers in a seven-game series. Noel took the first opportunity available to send Bledsoe a message in his team’s loss to the Phoenix Suns tonight, committing a hard foul 30 seconds after tip-off that prompted Bledsoe to get in the rookie’s face. Nerlens Noel, Karl-Anthony Towns

The Kentucky Wildcats and the Philadelphia 76ers are two basketball programs with completely different goals this season. SMU coach Larry Brown said the Wildcats should go 45-0 this season while 76ers general manager Sam Hinkie would love for his team to go 0-82 and secure the top spot in the NBA Draft Lottery. Kentucky is fighting for a National Championship and the 76ers are in full tank mode. Read More »

Some would surely say that we’ve been devoting too much time to Nerlens Noel at this space in the season’s early going, and there’s merit behind that critique. The rookie isn’t putting up huge numbers and plays for arguably the worst team in the league. But frankly, it’s just hard not to get excited about the all-encompassing defensive potential Noel shows on a nightly basis – the 20 year-old is a freak athlete with crazy length and natural instincts. If his skills on the other end ever catch up? Get ready to read even more about Noel. The 6-11 center flashed his raw offensive gifts tonight against the Orlando Magic by leading the break and finding Alexey Shved for an easy layup with a slick behind-the-back dish. Read More »

Video: Nerlens Noel Rejects James Harden’s Dunk Attempt With Authority

Nerlens Noel, James Harden

The Philadelphia 76ers didn’t get the win over the Houston Rockets tonight, but Nerlens Noel should be proud of his performance nonetheless. The Sixers’ wholly unique rookie posted 10 points, five assists and six steals against Dwight Howard and company, becoming the first starting center with at least that many dimes and swipes in a single game since 1973. Oh, and he also absolutely embarrassed James Harden when the Rockets superstar challenged him at the rim. Read More »

GIF: Nerlens Noel Blocks Giannis Antetokounmpo, Sprints Back For Dunk

Comparisons to Anthony Davis for Nerlens Noel were never fair. It’s true that the latter directly followed the former for a season at the University of Kentucky as an all-encompassing defensive monster, but that’s almost where their basketball parallels end. Thankfully, by the time an injured Noel was taken by the Philadelphia 76ers with the sixth pick of the 2013 draft, expectations that he would be a player of Davis’ caliber had completely subsided. He’ll just never be close to the offensive force that the New Orleans Pelicans’ franchise cornerstone is and will become, but that’s not a slight – Davis is a generational talent. Read More »

Rookie Stars Jabari Parker, Andrew Wiggins, Nerlens Noel Struggle In Debuts

Andrew Wiggins

20 points, 19 rebounds, three assists – what a game for Jabari Parker! Except not really. Those numbers are the combined statistics from the debuts of young stars Parker, Andrew Wiggins, and Nerlens Noel. The Rookie of the Year favorites labored relative to expectations in their opening NBA contests, lending further credence to talk of early summer that 2014-2015’s crop of first-year players would never live up to sky-high expectations. Rookie defensive maven Nerlens Noel had himself a night. The future of the Philadelphia 76ers had 8 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 5 blocks in his team’s exhibition against the Detroit Pistons, showing off his wholly unique blend of disruptive tools. But you have to contest a shot to get a block or reach for a dribble to get a steal, and Pistons high-flyer Josh Smith caught a confident Noel going for the swat before taking full advantage with a wind-up lefty slam. Players so tall aren’t supposed to move like Nerlens Noel.
