Burly, bruising behemoth Nikola Pekovic is considered by many to be one of the strongest guys in the entire league. The 28-year-old Montenegrin is a force on the block, more than most can handle. But a recent profile in the Star-Tribune revealed some interesting training habits, the most surprising of which details his practice of crawling around on the ground and emitting baby noises. You read that right. Read More »

Ricky Rubio‘s a slight-of-hand passing and dribbling is never more apparent than when he’s throwing the ball through an opponent’s 5-hole. After nutmegging Jarrett Jack and Michael Carter-Williams earlier this year, Portland’s Nicolas Batum was the next name added to Rubio’s nutmeg list during Minnesota’s 120-109 win over the Blazers. Player values are officially set in stone now, so it’s time to update the Top 50. There aren’t too many drastic differences, but certainly there are some changes worth noting.
The biggest jump, once again, goes to Anthony Davis, who’s up 18 spots since the preseason edition, and Andre Drummond, who’s up an incredible 25 spots. You’ll notice that I came around on ranking injured players. It still leaves too much up for debate in my mind, but Anthony Davis’s needed presence was the deal breaker. Read More »
The NBA has evolved into an athletic, perimeter-heavy league. While this type of emphasis can excite the audience with spectacular plays, strong froncourts are still the belly of the beast for many teams. The movie Friday, the 1995 stoner flick featuring Ice Cube and Chris Tucker, has become a cult classic over the years. I wanted to begin with a nice quote from the movie, but they all read like a Matt Barnes tweet. Next up, a Timberwolves team we just want to see healthy for a full season. Read More »
The Minnesota Timberwolves have had the worst luck the last two seasons. After Ricky Rubio‘s mop-headed arrival in the summer of 2011, Kevin Love has gone down, Nikola Pekovic has missed time and Rubio himself had surgery on his ACL and LCL in March last year. But now they’re all finally healthy, so we get performances like today’s 104-89 victory against the visiting Celtics. Read More »
Frontcourts are the backbone of every successful NBA team. No team has won a championship without a dominant frontcourt since Jordan’s Bulls, and Dennis Rodman and Scottie Pippen could certainly play a little bit. The point guard craze has taken over the NBA, but when is that last time a team led by a point guard won the championship? You could argue Chauncey Billups with the Pistons in 2004, but other than that you have to go all the way back to Isaiah Thomas and the Bad Boy Pistons in 1990. Read More »
