Anyone who tells you they know what lies in store for Derrick Rose this season is a liar, a fool, or both. Even Derrick Rose isn’t sure what to expect. Sure, he shook off some rust during the FIBA World Cup, but he shot the ball like he couldn’t hit the water if he fell out of a boat. Still, it was pretty fun to see him at full-throttle in tonight’s preseason game against Washington when he started the contest by knocking down four of his first five shots. One finish, in particular, made us jump up like it was 2011 again. Read More »

Derrick Rose Confidently Proclaims, “I Know I’m Going To Win A Championship Soon”

Derrick Rose

Despite two surgically repaired knees, two years of rust and just a few weeks of international play — with Team USA cruising in the FIBA World Cup — Derrick Rose still wasn’t shrinking from what he’s also said his primary goal has been: a title. He’s also pretty sure that elusive title will come “soon,” as he informed reporters during media day. Read More »

Report: Taj Gibson Wants To Start, But Will That Benefit The Bulls?

Taj Gibson, Drew Gooden

After finishing as the runner-up in the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year voting during the 2013-14 season, Taj Gibson — and most of his adoring fans in Chicago — expected he’d be in the starting lineup next season. This became even more of a foregone conclusion when the team finally amnestied last season’s lame-duck starter Carlos Boozer, who rarely finished the game with the rest of the starters. Except, with the signing of Pau Gasol in the offseason, Gibson again finds himself with the warmups on at the opening tip, something he’s not too keen on, but which may benefit the Bulls in the long run. France Shocks Host Nation, Heavy Favorite Spain 65-52 In World Cup Quarters

Boris Diaw

We believe there’s a chance that Spain really could beat Team USA. Unfortunately for Pau Gasol and company, though, they won’t get the opportunity to prove us right. In a shocking FIBA World Cup quarterfinal upset, France beat heavy favorite Spain 65-52, robbing basketball fans around the world their dream and seemingly imminent championship match-up of the host nation versus the Americans. Faried: Notion That USA Will Struggle Versus Size Is “Massively Disrespectful”

Kenneth Faried

After intended frontcourt stalwarts Kevin Durant, Blake Griffin, Kevin Love, and LaMarcus Aldridge opted against playing for Team USA in the FIBA World Cup, the Americans’ biggest strength became its litany of super-talented guards. Kyrie Irving, Steph Curry, Derrick Rose, and James Harden are all franchise cornerstones when healthy, capable of directing and creating offense like only a select few players in the world. This Beautiful Sequence Is The Spanish National Team In A Nutshell

Spain

Spain

For Americans not following the FIBA World Cup closely, it’s easy to believe that Team USA is the tournament’s only juggernaut. The United States is one of two teams teams that went undefeated in group play, beating its opponents on average by a whopping 33.2 points. Team USA leads the field in points (102.2), rebounds (42.0), assists (23.0), and steals (15.6) per game while shooting a tourney-best 54 percent from the floor. After so much consternation due to the surprising absence of superstars like Kevin Durant and Kevin Love, it’s hard to say the U.S. has missed a beat. But Team USA still might not be World Cup favorites; host nation and United States rival Spain has been just as if not more impressive than the Americans so far. Read More »

5 GIFS To Show Why Team USA Should Be Leery Of Spain In FIBA Basketball World Cup

Serge Ibaka, Marc Gasol

Spain is the biggest obstacle standing in the way of the USA team repeating as World Champions. Remember, this USA Basketball team is the youngest since they went on a 57-game (and counting) winning streak in exhibitions and official international games dating back to the 2006 World’s — where they finished third. Spain’s got a lot going for them, but these five GIFs do a good job explaining why their on-court product should have Coach K and his assistants weary at the prospect of facing them, most likely in the single-elimination round, or the Finals.
