Welcome to our newest segment, featuring throwback’s from glory’s past. While I have been a friend of the program for quite some time, it is great to be on board working with the Dime crew – easily the best group of people under one roof the Coach has ever worked with. What is great about Dime is that we all have our own niche in the game. Mine has always been spread between the coaching, the writing and the history. With the history comes the past styles and memorable figures. I just happen to have a closet full of gear featuring some quality throwback joints. Welcome to Throwback Thursdays. Read More »

Kevin Willis is the oldest man to play in more than one NBA game during a season; he was 44 when he made five appearances with the Mavericks at the tail end of the 2007 campaign. Before that, Robert Parish was 43 years old when he played in 40-plus games (including the playoffs) for the Bulls during their ’97 championship run.
Making an impact as a middle-aged man in a young man’s sport is tough for anybody. Read More »

I didn’t like the Celtics as a kid. “Hate” wouldn’t be the right word because I wasn’t a Lakers or Sixers fan, but there was a definite dislike there.
And even through that dislike, I still got the sense that Robert Parish was always undervalued as a Celtic. When people talk about the “Big Three,” it seems Parish is always mentioned last. Ranking behind Larry Bird is obvious, but should “The Chief” be permanently slotted under Kevin McHale? Read More »

Whatever was said between Allen Iverson and the Philadelphia front-office brass when the two sides met in Dallas yesterday, A.I.’s case for joining his old team was no doubt strengthened by what happened when the Philly players ran into the Mavericks that same night. Starting Jrue Holiday at PG and Willie Green at SG, the Sixers backcourt was looking real thin while getting dominated by 36-year-old Jason Kidd (22 pts, 11 asts, 6 rebs, 4 stls, 3 blks) in every facet of the game and hit up by Jason Terry for the game-winner … Read More »

As not to break my own “It’s just summer league” adage, I won’t get too excited about the fact that Roy Hibbert and Tyler Hansbrough are rampaging through Orlando right now for my Pacers like Robert Parish and Kevin McHale in ’86 (with A.J. Price as their Dennis Johnson).
We’re still months away from the real games, from even beginning to determine whether Hansbrough will become the good pro I think he’ll be, or the Lottery pick bust his harsher critics think he’ll be. Read More »

To clarify: Our NBA Fantasy Finals have nothing to do with the stat-driven “fantasy basketball” you play online. We’re taking NBA Finals teams throughout history and pitting them against each other to see what you think would happen. Assume both lineups are healthy, and the older team gets homecourt. Today it’s Mike vs. Larry and two of the greatest teams of all-time … Read More »
