ESPN #NBARank Pegs Royce White & Fab Melo As League’s Worst

Royce White

If you’re part of the NBA’s Twitter illuminati, you’re familiar with the #NBARank where ESPN’s NBA writers, True Hoop bloggers* and analysts vote on the top 500 players in the NBA today. It’s a subjective ranking during a down month before NBA training camps open, and it’s a fun way to drive debate about individual players. ESPN released numbers 500-401 yesterday and have rolled out #401-376 at noon today, but if you’re a fan of embattled former Rocket Royce White or former Syracuse center Fab Melo, you’re probably a little confused. NBA Players Break Down Dwight Howard’s “Indecision” On Twitter

Dwight Howard

It was leaked earlier tonight that Dwight Howard finally made a choice on where he’d play next year. The big man was going to Houston, and we could all rest easy knowing that another Dwightmare was over. Not so fast. As always with this dude, it wasn’t so easy. There are new reports saying he hasn’t decided yet because of the extra money involved should he stay in Los Angeles. Right now, some believe he’s still 50-50 between the Lakers and the Rockets. Jrue Holiday Destroys The Knicks; Kyrie Irving Breaks Toronto’s Heart

Jrue Holiday

The NBA All-Star Game is a showcase normally reserved for the great players who actually win games, and yet we haven’t heard one complaint about how Jrue Holiday is going to Houston next month. He’s been so good this season (remember, this cat is still only 22 years old) that everyone forgets his team kind of sucks. In a 17-point beating of New York, Holiday had 31 points at the end of the third quarter, finishing with a career-high 35. Read More »

Report: Royce White Is Close To Returning To Basketball

Royce White

Royce White called into a Houston radio station this morning and said a deal to return to the Houston Rockets, by way of their D-League affiliate, is in “the 12th hour.” Last June’s 16th overall NBA Draft pick has a warranted optimism for a return to playing basketball, not solely talking about the conditions that preclude him from doing so Read More »

Danilo Gallinari’s Dagger Drives The Lakers Lower; Dirk Questions Dallas’ Future

Danilo Gallinari

The wheels were already coming off in Los Angeles for the Lakers, but now it seems like an axle just gave way. A 112-105 home loss to Denver drops L.A. to 15-18, which is three games worse (as ESPN’s J.A. Adande perfectly pointed out) than the ’04-’05 Laker team with Chucky Atkins and Chris Mihm at point and center. The way Sunday’s loss ended is a metaphor for the Lakers’ season so far. Something good happens (Dwight Howard‘s block on Andre Miller with less than 15 seconds to go, with the Nugs up three), and then something worse happens (Howard’s block going right to Danilo Gallinari, who sank a three). And then when something good happens again (Kobe Bryant‘s insane corner three, guarded by three guys) it’s much too late to really matter. Your 2013 Los Angeles Lakers. Read More »

Royce White Is Getting Back In Shape But Says “Chances Are Very High” He Never Plays In The NBA

Royce White

It isn’t that Houston rookie forward Royce White wants every say regarding his anxiety disorder and its handling by the NBA. Talking to Sirius XM radio, White broke down his reasoning for why he’s stayed away from the team and its D-League affiliate. Simply put, he doesn’t trust the reasoning of Rockets management for why he should play in the absence of NBA protocol. Read More »

The Clippers Haven’t Lost In A Whole Month; Tony Parker Dices Up Dallas

Chris Paul

There wasn’t as much drama to this Clippers win over the Jazz, but even more significance came with it. L.A., you see, hasn’t lost in a pure month after beating Utah, 107-96. In their 17-game win streak, 16 of them came in December. It’s only the third 16-0 month in NBA history, after the ’72 Lakers and ’96 Spurs, though the ’96 Bulls went 14-0 in January during their 72-10 season. Unlike Friday’s dramatic win in SLC, the Clippers didn’t have to rally from 19 points down. Read More »
