Unless you’re from the Los Angeles area, chances are you don’t know the name Tim McGrath. A standout at Santa Monica High School, where he averaged 16.6 points and 6.5 boards per game as a senior, McGrath chose head coach Steve Fisher and San Diego State over the likes of West Virginia, Miami and Texas Tech. But after two seasons, he transferred to Cal State Dominguez Hills, bringing his tremendous vertical and horizontal leaping abilities with him. So while DeMar DeRozan started the summer off right at the Drew League, watch the 6-5 McGrath (a.k.a. “Vanilla Sky”) dunk all over NBA rookie Pooh Jeter this weekend. Nasty!

Last night, in what was being billed as the “biggest game in Mountain West Conference history,” No. 4 San Diego State visited No. 9 BYU. Really though, it was SDSU vs. The Jimmer Fredette Show on a nationally-televised televised stage. The man did not disappoint, shooting off the collective faces of the Aztecs to the tune of 43 points (and that was even with him going long stretches without scoring).
Last night, San Diego State sophomore Kawhi Leonard had his eighth double-double of the season with 23 points and 14 rebounds as the Aztecs (13-0) downed San Francisco 62-56 in the Las Vegas Holiday Hoops Classic. And while Leonard may not be a household name yet, he will be soon. With San Diego State currently ranked seventh in the nation, you better believe they’ve set the bar high for this season.
