While it seemed all eyes were on the charity games hosted by Matt Barnes (San Jose) and LaMarcus Aldridge (Portland) this weekend, there was another game going on as well. Case in point: Damien Wilkins‘ Monster Slam went down on Saturday at Clark Atlanta University, and players like Shannon Brown, Jeff Green, Lou Williams, Derrick Favors, Jordan Crawford, and Jarrett Jack put in work.
Have you ever been a part of something so good that once it’s over, it sucks? Like a summer vacation. Once it’s done, you want to just end it. Hate life. Hate that school is starting again. Or a night out with a dime? After that, everything else pales in comparison. You’re never satisfied. That’s what happened yesterday in Florida. Carmelo Anthony banged a trey with two seconds left in regulation to force overtime and from there, Team Wade finished off Team LeBron in the extra session, winning 141-140 even as James (game-high 34 points) hit a half-court shot at the game’s buzzer. The game showed us all what we’ve been missing. The lockout made us forget…the “South Florida All-Star Classic” reminded us. Read More »
I have no clue where this game of two-on-two was played, or who their teammates are, but I’d pay money to see Kevin Hart take on Shannon Brown any day.
Well it’s here. Doomsday is upon us. Nothing will be the same, not even NBA.com. Team websites will be gloomy (except that we’ll probably be smothered with photos/videos of dance teams/cheerleaders). The owners and players are still miles apart, with much of the tension focused on this hard cap that the suits seem obsessed with inserting. Plus, the players’ latest proposal was pretty much mocked out loud in public by David Stern and Adam Silver. Read More »
We’ve heard it before from Kobe Bryant: Shannon Brown does things that I could never do. He repeated it again last night after Brown decided to nearly jump through the backboard, switching hands in mid-air effortlessly. We just wish Aaron Gray would’ve jumped. Also, catch Kobe’s reaction after the jump.
NBA All-Star Media Day is always interesting. In the few that I’ve been to, I always like to see which players draw the biggest crowds of reporters, who gets the smallest crowds, who seems the happiest to be there, and who wishes he could be anywhere else in the world.
Kobe Bryant is always one of the most popular players at Media Day, which is going to present a tough situation for him on Friday, since it seems he doesn’t want to talk to anybody right now. Read More »
Shannon Brown has officially arrived. Not only has the 25-year-old arguably become the best player off the bench in only his third season with the two-time defending champion Los Angeles Lakers, but he is destroying opposing defenders from everywhere on the floor. And when the Lakers have needed an offensive spark – outside of that Kobe guy – they have begun to rely on the hard-working Chi-Town native. Read More »
Some day next decade, when they write the Wikipedia version of Blake Griffin’s basketball career, the pieces will all fit together sensibly. He was a high school All-American (and won the McDonald’s national dunk contest), then a college All-American, then the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft. So of course he would take the League by storm as soon as possible, running (and jumping, and dunking) away with the Rookie of the Year trophy and leading the woeful L.A. Clippers back to being a real-life pro sports franchise. Read More »
The last time the Clippers and Lakers saw each other, Kobe Bryant took a break from being the hero (albeit not on purpose) while Derek Fisher hit the game-winner to beat the buzzer and break the Clippers’ hearts. Yesterday afternoon, L.A.’s JV squad again gave the varsity its best shot, and this time the underdogs came away with a win. The craziest part? The Clips have reached a point where they don’t even have to play their best to beat the Lakers … Read More »
