Yesterday at Steve Nash‘s Showdown in Chinatown, NBA players and global soccer stars took the field to raise money for charity. Jared Dudley, one of the white team’s starters, had an impressive showing. Although he may not have a background in soccer, that didn’t stop him from trying. He ended up scoring two goals and managed one botched celebration. Armed solely with my flip cam and amateur film skills, I had the chance to speak with Dudley on the field before the match began.
Amid the frenzy of the NBA Draft and the looming lockout, Steve Nash gathered some of his best friends from the basketball and soccer worlds to Sara D. Roosevelt Park in the Lower East Side for his 4th Annual Showdown in Chinatown. On a sultry day with rain clouds threatening, the players did what they do best: play sports and entertain. Steve Nash will host his fourth “Showdown in Chinatown” today, a charity soccer match that raises funds for Nash’s seven-year-old foundation. The money will benefit early education.

At Steve Nash’s Showdown in Chinatown, Nate Robinson proved that he could play soccer. The funny thing was, Nate wasn’t even slated to appear until he tweeted THIS the day of the event. Next thing we know, Nate’s playing. Before he displayed his skills on the field, he showed us how the two sports could be combined with a nasty no-look pass goal.
Picture a game where Brandon Jennings can’t dribble and Tony Parker is tackling Nate Robinson. Doesn’t sound very realistic, now does it? Well, that was the scene on Wednesday at Sara D. Roosevelt Park, where Steve Nash and his Foundation held its third annual Showdown in Chinatown.
