When you think about Washington D.C. playground ball, two names need to be mentioned. One is Hugh “Baby Shaq” Jones, and the other is Andrew “SpongeBob” Washington.

By the time the event’s MC was serenading the finals in the Red Bull King of the Rock with “Both men are built Ford tough!” the crowd at Washington D.C.’s Barry Farms had seen it all: a buzzer-beater, a legally-deaf player advancing past the first round, a break for rain and a semifinals showdown between Hugh “Baby Shaq” Jones and Andrew “SpongeBob” Washington. While we don’t know exactly where Kevin Durant will be playing this winter, we do know he’ll make a decision by October. In the meantime, we will have to just catch this summer’s undisputed MVP continue to murder the summer league scene. Kendrick Perkins was arrested early yesterday morning after he was attempting to start a fight with a club manager and was charged with misdemeanor disorderly conduct and public intoxication at a Houston club. ‘Perk was apparently being pushed out of the back by a large crowd after trying to start a fight, and then continued to talk smack and start other fights as he went out. The final stop on the Red Bull 2on2 Revolution tour showcased the deepest talent pool of the summer. Between D.C. playground legends Andrew “SpongeBob” Washington and Omar Weaver, overseas pros like Isaiah Swann, and defending 2on2 champions from Philly and Baltimore, it was a perfect way to cap the summer run. Check out the video below to see how Philly’s “No Mercy” won their second straight Red Bull championship.
The last time we saw Goodman League commissioner Miles Rawls, he was heckling President Obama. Wearing a $15 Obama tee shirt, Rawls sat two rows behind the leader of the free world at the Wizards/Bulls game, where the two men exchanged some friendly trash talk throughout their February 27th meeting. Rawls is a well-known fun-loving heckler at the Verizon Center.
But that’s not his homecourt. He’s the commissioner of The Goodman League presented by Nike Basketball and DTLR at Barry Farms in Southeast DC, where he helped to kick off the “Season of Change: Summer 2009″ last night.
