In an issue that transcends sports, the water crisis in Flint, Michigan has been one of the most heartbreaking and worrisome stories to affect our country in recent years. The residents of Flint have been exposed to high levels of lead in their tap water for at least a year. This week, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder officially declared a state of emergency for Genesee County.

The relief efforts for this crisis could take awhile and the costs to undo the damage done — from bad pipes to additional health care — could be between $1 billion and $1.5 billion, according to CNN. Doing his part to help put a dent in some of that cost is Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores.

Additionally, Gores is working on an internal task force to provide further assistance.

Any donation for this cause is charitable, obviously, but giving that much to people in need is mind-blowing in the best way possible. Still, it’s unfortunate to think even $10 million is a fraction of what could be needed to undo everything such a massive injustice. That should put into perspective just how big this problem is and how massive a failure it was by those in charge.
