VIDEO: Boston’s Tyler Zeller Wins It With Dipsy-Doo Buzzer-Beater

Rookie Marcus Smart’s lob from the sideline to Tyler Zeller in the restricted area might have been just as impressive, but Zeller’s level-headed fake before coming up on the opposite side of the rim to bank the game-winner was pretty freakin’ frosty.

With 1.2 seconds left, Smart threw the ball to a double-teamed Zeller under the rim. A third defender came over, but Zeller avoided all defenders to net the Celtics a 85-84 win on their home floor.

Isaiah Thomas had a team-high 21 points in the win, but Zeller’s last bucket — giving him eight points (4/8) on the night, was the clincher. He added 11 rebounds in 29 minutes, and releashed his first NBA game-winner:

“This is definitely my first one in the NBA,” Zeller said of his game-winner. “I just wanted to make sure it was good. That’s really all I wanted to know. It was a great thing and Marcus put it right on the money, made my job easier. It’s a great feeling, especially at the other end. Gordon [Hayward] had made the shot on me so being able to come back and make the game-winner is an unbelievable feeling. This was kind of a must-win for us so being able to get this win was big.”

Smart everyone else in the C’s locker room gave the credit to coach Brad Stevens, for drawing up a second play after calling a timeout when the first one didn’t work.

“Coach Stevens drew up a great play,” Smart said. “The first play was supposed to go to Jae Crowder. Utah played it very well [before we called timeout]. [After the timeout] he came back with the counterattack. It was tough, they put a tall defender on the ball and I had to pass fake the ball to get him leaning one way. Tyler did a great job shoving his man off and just put it at the back of the backboard.”

Great play call by Stevens, and Smart and Zeller executed it prefectly. We particularly liked Tyler’s soupcon of a fist pump after it fell through:
